How To Re-Focus… Yourself

Even the most productive and focussed people will occasionally find them selves staring at a blank wall. It might just be “one of those days”, but if it starts to happen repeatedly you might have to consider that there’s a bigger problem.

You’ve Lost Your Focus

You don’t really feel like doing anything and you can’t keep track of what you actually convince yourself to do. You start asking ‘Why?’ without ever really looking for an answer. Well don’t worry, it happens. Luckily there are a few things you can do to re-focus your mind and your attitude.

1. Set Your Priorities Straight

When you feel like you have too much to do, you end up not wanting to do anything. Set your priorities so you have a clear vision of what needs to get done now. This way your to-do list is a little smaller and more focussed. Also keep a list of things you will want to be thinking about or working on in the future. This way you will be aware of your future endeavors and also have a list of things to work on when you just don’t feel like focusing on the tasked at hand. This way your focused on something that needs to be done rather than nothing.

2. Seek Silence

If you’re becoming more easily distracted, get rid of the distractions. Invest in a pair of headphones that block out all the noise. Keep your cell phone out of sight and only open your e-mail 1-3 times a day. If none of that helps, leave your phone at home and work from a remote location that you are unfamiliar with and try facing a wall.

3. Relax A Bit

When you’re relaxed you will be able to look at the big picture instead of just looking forward. You will be able to observe what’s working and what’s not which will give you the direction and focus to get more done. Being relaxed also helps you get in “the zone”. You are calm enough to organize your thoughts and goals and then strategically approach all of them.

Easy Ways To Stay Motivated

Sometimes it feels like the whole world is out to kill any motivation that you might have. If you want to stay on the track to success you can’t give in and you HAVE to stay motivated. Luckily it doesn’t have to be as hard as it seems.

Step #1 – Realize that you ARE in control – You are the only person in control of your attitude. You might want to think that the outside world and everything that happens are in control of your attitude but that’s not the case. Your glass never has to be half empty, or empty at all, if you don’t want it to be.

Step #2 – Get Rid of Your Negative Triggers – Negativity is a slippery slope. Example: You get stuck at multiple red lights on the way to an important meeting. You get annoyed and you walk into your meeting with a bad attitude. You end up slipping up a couple times during the meeting and walk away upset and unsure. You end up grumpy and upset by the time you are home and it shows to all of your friends and family. It can keep going into the next day if you let it. Point being, stop it at the first sign of negativity.

Step #3 – Avoid Negative People – Once you get yourself away from the slippery slope of negativity and bad attitudes you have to make sure that no one else pulls you back in. You know who the negative people are in your life and you probably know that it’s better to steer clear. If you are going to be around them, approach it as an opportunity to make a positive impact on them.

3 Easy And Cheap Ways To Motivate Your Team

Are you able to truly motivate your employees? Great leaders can and good leaders wish they could better than they have been. One thing I have learned from running a company or two is that money isn’t always the answer when it comes to motivation. Sometimes your employees need something else. Yes, i basically just told you that you can boost morale and motivation without emptying your wallet. Good news right?  Here are a few cheap tricks that will help your employees to actually want to work.

1. Be generous with your praise – Go beyond the “good job” and pat on the back. Explain what they did right and how truly valuable it is to the company. Always let them know that their work matters to the big picture and not just to you.

2. Eliminate the “project managers” – You don’t need to put one person in charge to make sure things get done. Empower the entire group and encourage them to work together. You will see people caring more about the finished product instead of just getting it done.

3. Ask for their opinion – Instead of telling your employees how something needs to be done, ask them how they think it should be done. Ask them what they think about how you think it should be done and always ask for ideas to improve the process. This simple gesture lets your employee know that their opinion is valued and that they aren’t just worker drones, they can actually think.
